Retreat Home provides safe, stable temporary housing for families experiencing housing insecurity through a volunteer home-sharing model. We keep children housed, support families, and create safe, respectful spaces of belonging through shared support and connection.

We are Neighbors Housing Neighbors.

Retreat Home believes that when families experiencing a housing crisis are welcomed into safe and supportive homes that provide stability, encouragement, and care, they are better able to restore hope, regain stability, and move toward long-term housing and well-being. We believe safe shelter and supportive community are foundational human needs essential for children and families to thrive.

Through the adaptive reuse of existing residential spaces, Retreat Home transforms available homes into places of refuge and stability. Rather than building new structures, we utilize a community-based home-sharing model that mobilizes existing neighborhood resources to provide immediate, relational, and dignified housing solutions for families experiencing housing insecurity. Shared support comes from our connections with community partners providing case management, employment readiness, mental health and physical wellness and education opportunities.

Our guiding principle remains at the center of our work:
“Neighbors Housing Neighbors.”

How It Works

Guest families are offered a three-month stay at no cost, made possible through host families who provide housing and utilities. This structure allows families to save critical financial resources for first month’s rent, deposits, and move-in costs, removing one of the most significant barriers to securing permanent housing.

Families are supported through partnerships with community-based case managers and mental health professionals, ensuring that both parents and children receive coordinated, holistic care. These relationships often extend beyond the program, helping families build long-term community connections and support systems that endure well after placement.

Beyond financial stability, the program provides something equally critical for children:

  • Consistent, safe housing during a period of crisis

  • Time and space for emotional healing and stabilization

  • Supportive relationships within a caring community
